Benefits of Swedish Massage

Other benefits of Swedish massage include addressing chronic pain, rehabilitating and injury to connective tissue and muscles, deep release of pent up stress, and a bolstering of the immune system.

Immune System? Yes! Because Swedish massage is so wonderfully relaxing, the body goes into a healing, mending state where the immune system has a change to catch up. Swedish massage reduces Cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone that in normal levels, is vital for our well being, but too much of it is an immune represent. Most of us walk around with a bit too much of it and our immune system is trying to play catch-up. Ask anybody who has ever received Swedish Massage and they'll tell you it's a sure way to relax and let go of stress.

History of Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage was created in the 1830s by a Swedish man by the name of Per Henrik Ling, who among other things, was a fencer. One day after training his sport he had injured elbows and he began to use a tapping or percussive touch on them and over a short amount of time, was able to heal his injuries. After his success, he began to self experiment more and over time developed a method that today we know as Swedish Massage. Around 20 years later, Swedish Massage was later brought the the United States and the rest of the world by two other Swedish men named Dr. Charles Taylor and Dr. George Taylor.

After that, the technique had much therapeutic success and has been applied in various spas, private practices, and the like ever since. Swedish Massage is truly the most commonly practiced and well-known massage therapy modality on the planet.

It's suitable for pretty much anybody at any time, and is helpful for a whole host of different applications and circumstances. So! If you are wondering which modality to choose for your next session--Swedish Massage definitely has the world's vote at the moment.
